Has anyone calculated/estimated what Trump's war on science will mean for (for-profit) academic publishers? Given the political and financial turmoil I see no way how academics from US institutions can publish the same volume of new articles like they did before
@gkalinkat why should the for profit publishers worry? profit will be made somehow, even when just legitimizing elmo Trumpfs strange notions of what science should be. They never cared about scientific standards, see "novelty" metric for publishing, see reproducibility anti-correlates with IF, etc...
Sorry - I thing they find each other as partners thinking along the same lines.
not sure about this. Trumps EOs are objectively very bad/dumb for several global industries. I also think that if a global player like RELX/Elsevier loses a big chunk of its revenue from one part of the world it will try to squeeze out more from the rest
@gkalinkat maybe I think to low of the mentioned for profit publishers...?
when profit is in danger to decline, just lower rejection rates and your profits are fine...
@gkalinkat I should stress that I find this idea I have laid out absolutely repulsive, shouldn't I?
