Ah yes, the joy of old not so old 2000s #cars. Our inherited #renault #scenic2 JM now starts to do funny electronic things. So lets do the only reasonable thing and continue to throw money at it.

- malfunction parking brake (but only if stopping at a traffic light, parking actually works)
- reverse light flickering
- windshield wipers intermittent failure (but only for heavy rain, lol).
- low voltage error codes via OBD
- AC not activating (no click/no cold air)

My best guess is the engine bay "fusebox" that actually contains some smarts, MosFETs, current sensing and other stuff and supplies all those things. Part number 8200306032. Luckily this part is still available for a reasonable price of ~120 bucks and just takes two weeks shipping for some reason.

We are now approaching ~6k spent to keep it running. But now everything that can fail failed so we should be good, right? RIGHT? Maybe we should've just bought a used EV for 20k...

#R4 #BEV

Yesterday, I posted a picture of the Quatrelle, one of several Renaults that had an asymmetric wheelbase, thanks to the design of their torsion bar independent rear suspension. As well as the 4, I think, from memory, these included the 5, 7, 14 and 16. Meanwhile, this trait was not shared with the big-selling 12, seen here in later facelifted form at #FOTU 2024, or the 15, 17, 18 and Fuego, which were evolved from it. These had a simple beam rear axle.

Replied to The Japan Times

@thejapantimes The breakup feels unfortunate and even unnecessary. I've owned a Renault and friends have owned Nissans; all made sense and were manufactured in democracies.

A cross-pollinating combo of quirky and straight-laced plus cross-continental synergies sounded always beneficial but it might've been the egos of corporate numbnuts that got in the way... 🤷‍♂️

Renault Chairman Jean-Dominique Senard will soon step down from Nissan's board of directors, according to people familiar with the matter, continuing a broader leadership shakeup at the Japanese automaker. japantimes.co.jp/business/2025 #business #nissan #renault #carmakers

Yesterday, @clanger9 raised the question of asymmetry in Renaults. By coincidence, the very next car I snapped at the 2014 Bremen Classic Motor Show after yesterday’s AMC Pacer, this nice red Renault 4, is a perfect example. Like several older Renaults, the Quatrelle had a slightly longer wheelbase on one side than the other thanks to the design of its torsion bar rear suspension, which placed one torsion bar across the car in front of the other.

Renault 4CV aka "Cremeschnittchen" in Germany

The Renault 4CV (French: quatre chevaux, pronounced [kat.ʃəvo] as if spelled quat'chevaux)[5] is a car produced by the French company Renault from August 1947 through July 1961.[2] It is a four-door economy car with its engine mounted in the rear and driving the rear wheels. It was the first French car to sell over a million units, and was superseded by the Dauphine...
