New European space projects include a space post office system for phone calls, cable and TV employing twelve satellites, which would orbit 7,500 miles above the Earth, starting in 1968, plus a two-satellite system serving the Commonwealth and Europe, and a rocket-ferry system to be used to build orbiting stations in space.

New research from the Department for #Transport (DfT) shows that leisure travel is now the most common reason people travel by #train. It also highlights midweek commuting, with Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays being the busiest days. The #railway is vital for connecting people for work, education, healthcare, and leisure, supporting economic growth.

The report found 54% of passengers travel for leisure, 30% for work or education, and 15% for business. The government is investing in a major overhaul of the rail network, moving towards public ownership and the creation of Great British Railways (GBR).

Despite challenges like delays and cancellations, the government is working to improve service reliability and has introduced new performance measures at 1,700 stations. Rail revenue has seen growth, with over one million tickets sold during the latest rail sale, indicating strong demand for train travel.
