Oh, also: I can't plug it into my Mac & forgo "pairing" (or whatever the fuck they call it) to just let it charge while keeping it at hand & not having to bring the wallwart charger to the table, because then both laptop & phone go into a fugue state where they just keep spawning dialog boxes until the heat death of the universe, no matter how many time you click "Cancel" on them... 🙄🙄🙄

HelvedeJW Prince of CPH, Radicalized (@jwcph@helvede.net)This is getting fucking ridiculous... I just had to do a fucking search for "How to switch off iPhone 14" AND I'M STILL NOT SURE TO TURN THE FUCKING THING OFF!! 🤯🤬 I guess "using the same button you used to turn the fucking thing on" is too complicated for the Cupertino Brain Trust. "User friendly" my aching ass 😩 #Apple #iphone #ux

Maybe it was something that only very, very few people actually used, but, man, do I miss divider lines in browser bookmarks. I found them tremendously useful.

In fact, I still create them in lots of contexts, such as in layer nav bars in graphics design software, etc. etc. etc.

@MichalBryxi BTW, I just (re)discovered a great #UX appproach for entering emoji, and it's in Shiny Frog's amazing Bear notes app.

When you enter colon (after a space or on a new line), a popup menu appears, listing emoji whose name _or category_ match the text you enter after that colon. The menu, of course, is updated in real time as you type.

Brilliant!

Isn't it curious that Unity, Unreal and Godot all use very similar UI (and underlying representation) for how a UI element is anchored to its parent container?

This is based on the work I did for Unity's UI system that shipped in Unity 4.6 in 2015. It was later copied by Unreal and Godot - in Unreal's case, even before Unity 4.6 went out of beta!

No hard feelings - I'm proud to have been behind this "industry standard" :)

No, seriously, fuck the iPhone. The longer I use the one I recently got for work, because I have to, the more I'm confirmed that my decision to stay away from that shit until now was absolutely the right one...

Make no mistake; I'm a Mac fan - but the phone? The only thing that doesn't fucking suck is the camera, which is worth fuck-all when getting pics & vids off the device is completely goddamn impossible to do without bending over & taking the entire Apple package up the butt.

Why did The Guardian take top spot in our Media Page Speed Benchmarks? Because the main image was the fifth request on the page.

Calling the LCP element early seems like a no-brainer, right? Yet too often, I see it called MUCH too late.
