Finished painting and touching up my now more fire resistant siding, in between other projects. Still need to finish off the eaves. Main lessons:

1. Need to make sure the intumescent paint is dry as possible before top coat.

2. THIN top coat and second coat better than one thick coat. (Keeps paint lighter and less likely to slide or sag)

3. COOL air temperatures a lot better for the top coat than HOT. Even within paint range. More viscosity helps.

I’ve had a tremendous response to my latest episode of Alberta Unbound, about Little Red River Cree Nation in northern Alberta, a community devastated by two years of wildfires, and left in the lurch by governments and corporations that seem more interested in making problems than solving them. This convo with Chief Conroy Sewepagaham should be a must listen for every Albertan and Canadian. #Alberta #cdnpoli #wildfires

After the recent California fires, the Army Corps of Engineers caused an uproar with the early mismarking of trees as hazardous. Residents and professional arborists responded, the Corps listened, and collaboration is now leading to new growth. #LA #fires #Wildfires

Record-challenging heat to build over #Southwest, including over 100 F in #Phoenix

Temperatures will reach triple digits over part of the interior Southwest into this weekend, and dry air paired with the heat will rise the risk of #wildfires.

Excerpt:
"Temperatures will run 10-20 degrees Fahrenheit above historical averages at the peak, with records challenged. Factoring in April sunshine, which is equivalent to sunshine in August, AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures can spike to 10 degrees or more above the actual temperature during the day.

"'Phoenix is likely to experience its first 100 F or higher reading of the year on Thursday,' Zehr said, 'Friday and Saturday may also top 100.'

"The average date for the first 100 is May 2 at Phoenix. The earliest date was March 26, 1988."

“Yesterday three fire crews were battling a 150-metre wall of flame on the Isle of Skye as wildfires threatened huge swathes of the north’s landscape.

Large parts of the Scotland are currently covered by a severe wildfire warning and there have already been a large number of serious incidents.

Crews from Dunvegan, Portree and Kyle of Lochalsh were sent to the Glendale area of Skye shortly after midday.”

Fine. Moved a few of the "foundation plants" near my house into pots, so they are portable (a few small coffee plants and former houseplants). Procedure will be to move them away from the house when Red Flag Warning conditions appear. In the -0-5 ft defensible space area. #disasterpreparedness #wildfires
