Das Originalvideo habe ich mir angesehen, und ich kann die Kritik des Sprechers gut nachvollziehen. Ob seine Aussagen letztendlich korrekt sind, überlasse ich ihm. Er behauptet, dass Linux am Desktop des durchschnittlichen Nutzers scheitert. Zu diesem Thema habe ich bereits meine Meinung geäußert und dafür viel Kritik erhalten.
Linux ist in der Tat ein Betriebssystem, das vor allem für Anwender geeignet ist, die bereit sind, Zeit und Mühe in das Lernen und Verstehen der Plattform zu investieren. Wer glaubt, dass nach einer einfachen Installation alles reibungslos funktioniert, wird früher oder später enttäuscht sein. Ein entscheidender Moment wird der bevorstehende Versionssprung sein, der oft mit einem umfangreichen Update einhergeht. An diesem Punkt wird es für viele Nutzer interessant, da sie sich mit den neuen Funktionen und Änderungen auseinandersetzen müssen.
Die meisten Menschen suchen dann Hilfe im Internet oder in der Community, was grundsätzlich positiv ist. Doch die Frage bleibt: Ist jeder bereit, die notwendige Zeit zu investieren, um all diese Aspekte zu lernen? Es geht hier nicht nur darum, einen Webbrowser oder ein E-Mail-Programm bedienen zu können. Vielmehr erfordert die Nutzung von Linux ein tieferes Verständnis für das System, seine Struktur und die verschiedenen Tools, die zur Verfügung stehen.
Wer sich nicht die Zeit nimmt, sich mit diesen Themen auseinanderzusetzen, könnte schnell auf Schwierigkeiten stoßen und frustriert aufgeben. Daher ist es wichtig, sich bewusst zu machen, dass Linux nicht nur ein Betriebssystem ist, sondern auch eine Lernreise, die Geduld und Engagement erfordert.
Wenn ich Windoof verstehen möchte, muss ich ebenfalls Zeit und Ressourcen investieren; es funktioniert schließlich nicht von selbst, oder?

Just installed #NixOS on an old laptop with Gnome DE, as I saw an article and quite a few people recommending it this morning. Bit of a learning curve but quite a different and exciting way of package management. Enjoying it so far.
I decided to just go ahead and update Ubuntu to 25 through the CLI. Everything seemed to go fine, but then it rebooted to a black screen.
I used my phone to get an Ubuntu 25 live USB stick, but which then also just booted to black with no boot options. I then made an Ubuntu 24 live USB which booted as expected. I ran Boot Repair and reinstalled Grub.
After that, the 25 install booted into Grub options, but upon starting Ubuntu as normal or safe mode, it still just went into black.
I tried booting in with Linux kernel 6.11, instead of 6.14, and it booted fine. So, I'm guessing there is some conflict with 6.14 and the firmware? Or potentially something else?
I'm using an Intel Macbook, since I moved to FOSS a year ago. I need a new (non-Apple) laptop anyway, so I may just live with it for now.
Ongoing fun ongoes, so much so. This iteration receives triple output: tty video (Display Port), COM1 redirect via DB9 to laptop running minicom, COM2 to the usual BMC SoL terminal watched from ipmitool on adjacent laptop.
Coming up, rebooting into GENERIC-DEBUG kernel rebuilt with remote GDM (kgdb) access via the COM1 link to laptop.

Es gibt viel Auswahl an Nutzungsmöglichkeiten und Du kannst alle parallel nutzen... alternative Weboberflächen, Apps für #Android und #iOS, Anwendungen für den #Desktop (#Linux, #Windows, #MacOS), etc.
Ich tippe hier gerade mit #Tusky, habe aus Gründen allerdings auch #Pachli, #Fedilab, #Moshidon, ... installiert.

So, I’ve basically reinstalled the system from a USB drive and am now restoring #backups. Luckily, I backed up all the #Dotfiles and configurations and so the #desktop is behaving as before, which is a big relief. On the up side, it’s booting a lot faster and the #disk has #btrfs #partition, rather than #Ext4.

After 6 months of development of the Plucky Puffin version, especially bug fixes, performance improvements, and feature additions, Ubuntu’s Release Team has released this version! Not only is it released in the original distribution, but also in Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, and all other official flavors.
To upgrade your system to 25.04, either open the terminal and run do-release-upgrade as root, or open Software Updates and start the upgrade. Make sure that your packages are upgraded first and that you’ve enabled non-LTS upgrades.

Just realized I've subconsciously configured my Gnome desktop to look and operate similarly to Pantheon desktop.
I wanted to automatically switch power profiles to:
1. performance when AC power is plugged in 2. balanced on battery power
3. powersave below 40% battery
Kde has it but gnome doesn't. Every 6 months, gnome breaks essential extensions like clipboard manager. It also takes months to make it into distros like nixos because of all the extra work of porting their unstable apis.
Did anyone switch to kde and how is your experience?

Can we bring distinct title bars back to desktop applications?
I don’t even care if you wanna hide the menu under a hamburger, I just want a title bar I can drag around and and resize. Something that clearly shows focus and keeps an app and all its bullshit contained within a clearly defined border.
Next job: learn how to fully customise Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon.
I like the Mac layout better than WinBlows, have for years, so will be figuring out how to do something similar with Cinnamon.
Apps centre bottom, info top right. Maybe a few unobtrusive desklets with time, system status, etc. Don’t know if you can pop the app menus out to top bar like Mac, but not an issue.
Not expecting it to be a breeze, but used Linux from 93 to 2001 so have a clue how it works.
