This is one of my favorites from the last batch I made. The black is from a manganese-rich clay my friend gave to me in New Mexico, collected from the mountains. The red is also from a NM clay, an iron-rich charcoal gray clay we spotted on the roadside outside of Taos. The dark burgundy diamonds are painted with clay from a beach in Puerto Rico. Fresh from the kiln: my first try at a filigree jug! The original jug dates back to 1550-1600 and was found in a potter's waste dump in the Aulgasse in Siegburg. Collection Boijmans van Beuningen.

I made this plate with a drawing of a beech from our garden by scratching away the white top layer, revealing the brown clay underneath. Now the plate is waiting for the next firing.
