The detail of the horse heads, the singularity of the pommel, the filigrees, the Nordic-inspired blade.... It's one of those designs that always haunts my mind, and, despite it being a challenge, I felt it was a natural next step in my leather carving and moulding skills. It's been six months of slow progress in my free time, but I couldn't be happier with the result

Collage of 6 pics of different stages of the hilts' shaping. The first shows the top layer of the guards tooled on the leather with the shape of the ring beside traced. The second shows both hilts assembled, 4 layers of leather glued together, the handles carved and sanded roughly, the pommels only traced with a pen on the block of layers, and the tooled layers of the guards missing. On the third, the tooled layer is glued to the rest, the pommel is roughly carved in the trapezoidal shape and there is a piece of leather with the final layer of the pommel tooled and still uncut; one of the hilts is facing down showing the back part where the strap will be attached and the stud is placed in the pommel. The three pics behind show the final aspect of the hilts unpainted: a general view of both hilts, one grabbed and one on the cutting mat, a very close up pic of one of the horses neck, the textures of the filigrees and the mane at the external border; and a pic of the corners of the pommels, an almost hidden part from most of viewpoints, with more filigrees carved with a pyrograph

As emblematic as Narsil or Sting, and just as tied to its bearer, is Herugrim, the sword of the king of Rohan Théoden. And, for me, one of the most beautiful works of forge and blacksmithing ever designed

No, this little door is not in the Shire. We're in Giardini Margherita in Bologna. This little hut is a reconstruction of a Villanovian dwelling. The Villanovians (900-550 BCE) are the first Etruscan inhabitants of the Bologna we know today. This is probably also the only house in Bologna that AirB&B don't have their grubby little hands on... yet.

#ThrowbackThursday with this 2022 map of one of my oldest passions: my mother used to read Bilbo to us to put us to sleep, I read all Tolkien works and try to learn Sindarin during my teens, Jackson's trilogy is my favorite movie since I saw FOTR at the theater at 9 y.o, I try to read LOTR & Silmarillion regularly...

It took an eternity to tool and another eternity to lace. Hoping to do the Beleriand one one day !

As a #LOTR fan, it's incredibly annoying that Peter Thiel's terrible techno-police-state companies are named after Westernese artifacts and other names borrowed from Tolkien's lore. There's Palantir, which makes population surveillance tech, and Andruil, which is building the ED-209 "peace-keeping machine" from Robocop. Then there are Valar Ventures and Mithril Capital.

Dude, Tolkien was against everything you stand for! I feel like #Tolkien did when the Nazis started appropriating Germanic mythology and the Ring Cycle.

So trying to figure out what I just saw, I guess the laserblaster is like the #LOTR ring thing, and Billy went straight into Smeagol/Gollum mode without wasting our time with hobbits and wizards or quests or any sense of a plot at all.

With a bit less time following cars driving around and the pool frolicking this could've been a half-hour movie.
