FaST<p>"When I came across FAST I was like - this is the thing I've been looking for forever. This is the thing!</p><p>We did FAST - the team hated it at first. But a few months in they didn't want ever want to work any other way. They loved it! The bus numbers were gone, the dependencies were gone, the cross-learning was there. Adapting to any problem that ever came was there. Jon Reid<p>The power of working as a software team:<br>- 3 people are working on a feature. I join them. 1 person leaves.<br>- We implement part of a feature, which helps me understand what's going on. I take a turn at driving and we implement another part.<br>- 2 people leave for lunch, since we're in different timezones. Another person joins.</p><p>Now, none of the original people are here, but the work keeps moving forward. <a href="https://iosdev.space/tags/SoftwareTeaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SoftwareTeaming</span></a> <a href="https://iosdev.space/tags/EnsembleProgramming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EnsembleProgramming</span></a> <a href="https://iosdev.space/tags/MobProgramming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MobProgramming</span></a></p>
David Beers<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://mas.to/@maaretp" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>maaretp</span></a></span> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://hachyderm.io/@glenjamin" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>glenjamin</span></a></span> it sounds like you’re saying the gate we want is one that validates that the team has a common mental model at the point when coding is just getting started. The idea being that until there is a little bit of implementation to look at together we don’t have enough “grist for the mill” to have an effective conversation? So something like <a href="https://dair-community.social/tags/mobprogramming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mobprogramming</span></a>?</p>
David Beers<p>Watched this video by Jessica Kerr about symathesy and software teams as camarata and literally had tears welling up in my eyes. Yes, it’s partly a matter of being rather raw right now, but above all it was this recognition of “oh my god, these are my people… I miss them so much.” Mind you, I’ve never met Jessica. But I just adore this beautiful, inspiring, geeky presentation of what it means to be a great team. That must have been a wonderful <a href="https://dair-community.social/tags/mobprogramming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mobprogramming</span></a> conference. <a href="https://youtu.be/W9I4loWogqw" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">youtu.be/W9I4loWogqw</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
Mark Bradley<p>The Armakuni live stream starts in 10 minutes.</p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/live/kSnxLAFjAHo?si=WnehCtbAyHHZLIkv" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/live/kSnxLAFjAHo?s</span><span class="invisible">i=WnehCtbAyHHZLIkv</span></a></p><p>I can't make it today, but was involved in the test run. It's definitely worth watching.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/pairProgramming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pairProgramming</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/mobProgramming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mobProgramming</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ensembleProgramming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ensembleProgramming</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/tdd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tdd</span></a></p>
David Beers<p>It strikes me that one answer to that question is <a href="https://dair-community.social/tags/mobprogramming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mobprogramming</span></a>. It’s a bit counterintuitive but an important aspect of mob programming is that most of the time everyone on the team is concentrating on the same thing. </p><p>I haven’t tried this but I’ve done pair programming and it had similar value in that code reviews were no longer configured as required interruptions in the day that force you to stop your work and get into a different complex headspace. Much more time spent in flow.</p>
