I just spent the past 3.5 hours walking around in the woods at night with a few students for an amphibian night lab. Full moon, wood frogs and barred owls calling through the night, spotted salamanders swimming around. (they requested a weekend option, and it was only supposed to be 2 hours but they wanted to keep exploring more). the night and their excitement of seeing wildlife lifts my mood.

12/04/2025 - Night time walk up the hill. Started about 11pm and found a quiet spot facing east by 12am. Tonight's stupid idea was to try for comet C/2025 F2 (SWAN). To pass the few hours wait we had a look at the Crescent Nebula in the constellation Cygnus. Round 3am we got a snap of the comet low near the horizon. Just a tiny fuzzy green dot but I was pretty happy with that. The morning twilight was coming so time to head back. In bed by 5.30am. Top night out.

09/04/2025 - A trip to the moon and stars from my doorstep this evening. @bisamsee had mentioned Mizar and Alcor (the double stars in Ursa Major) a few days back. I thought I'd have a go with my scope. To split these two with the naked eye is an ancient test of eyesight. They were looking lovely tonight. The moon was too, a very shiny 91% full.
