ICYMI: White-winged diuca finches might be the highest-nesting #birds in the Western Hemisphere, building homes directly on Andean glaciers at altitudes reaching 5,300 meters.

This rare #BBC Earth footage shows these birds in their harsh habitat, where they face bitter cold, heavy #snow, high winds, and low oxygen levels. Most surprising is that despite the brutal conditions, their nests contain just twigs, grasses, and other birds' feathers.

Happy #MountainMonday! The point seen off in the distance is where I was headed as I began my descent last week from the summit shown in the pic at the beginning of this thread. The #snow/#ice-covered trail winds along the edge of a steep slope (including a cliff) before it disappears into the woods. Harsh conditions- blowing hard, snowing, frigid wind chill. A fun challenge! #hiking #mountains #nature

SNOW SHOWERS FOR SOME:

The Colorado low-pressure system pushing through the #Northland will bring plenty of #precipitation, with #rain transitioning to #snow throughout Monday.

Some spots in the Boundary Waters and the South Shore snowbelt regions will see accumulation.

A futurecast model over the Northland shows the precipitation coming through the region with a Colorado low-pressure system will begin as rain, but will start to transition to a rain/snow to all snow north of Highway 2 by sunrise Monday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for northern Cook, northern Lake, and northern St. Louis counties Monday, April 14, 2025. With snow showers likely in this region throughout the day, up to 4 inches of accumulation is possible on grassy and lesser traveled roadways.

While a rain/snow mix is possible across the Northland Monday, a transition to all snow showers is looking likely across the region Monday night. The highest snowfall will be along the South Shore snowbelt region.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Gogebic, Iron, and Ontonagon counties for Monday evening through Tuesday morning. 2 to 5 inches of snowfall is possible in this region.

Today was a bit of a weird one weather-wise. We left Glasgow in sunshine this morning to climb a couple of munros on the Ben Lawers range. By the time we were coming back down, it was snowing. As we drove back to Glasgow, the sun returned, and then by nightfall it was raining. Welcome to Spring in Scotland.
