Their diet is diverse—seeds, berries, insects, and even small reptiles are on the menu. During spring, males gather harems of females, who nest on the ground and lay up to a dozen eggs. Chicks grow rapidly, taking their first flight within two weeks! Keep an eye (and ear) out for their distinctive crowing and sudden bursts into flight.
