Shinryu
Someone in the Steam #FFXIV community: "I’d like to see the game go the same way ESO did—have a sub, but don’t make it mandatory. Throw in a few small perks for those who pay. Fifteen bucks a month isn’t a huge deal, but it does get annoying. They make plenty off the Mogstation already, so having a required sub just feels greedy."

Excuse me? Are they lost?

Btw, my answer was:

They’ve got a point. In ESO, you’re not just payin’ extra for some cosmetic fluff. Drop your sub, and bang... half your game’s gone. No more dungeons, no more raids, and good luck gearin’ up.

Sure, you can technically buy those DLCs separate, but after a while? You’ll end up spendin’ way more than just buy the FFXIV Complete Edition and keepin’ a sub rollin’. That “small bonus” they talk about? Feels more like they’re (Bethesda & Zenimax) just holdin’ your content hostage. Even the sub players in ESO are the ones keepin’ the game goin’. If it was fully free-to-play, the whole thing’d crash sooner or later.

You're talkin' about greed, when SE only sells flashy mounts, emotes etc, which you *don’t* have to buy, while Zenimax turns half their game into a coin-operated ride. Soon as you stop payin’, you lose access to all those DLCs—but somehow that’s not greed? Yeah, alright, mate. Sure thing.

Btw, I actually played the game myself for a long while (on PC & console), so don’t even bother tryin’ to tell me otherwise. I’m pretty happy with how Square Enix runs things, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
