Really lovely to have a short version of mine and Trix Randerson's 'Nicked & Nicked' paper published in the YAHS magazine!
If you didn't see the original paper, you can read it here.

Although the 'Iron Age Dialogues' conf will be published, I will be hit with the usual image rights issues, so will have to adapt it.
I wrote this for anyone who wasn't there (...or for anyone who was & didn't get a chance to take it all in! )

Some bedtime reading for you all: why access to artefacts and the free ability to research, publish - and replicate - matters.

#Snettisham Hoard F has some very strange stuff going on, but I think I'm starting to understand it.
This paper leads on from one I wrote about the Grotesque torc & lays down evidence for the next paper I'm currently writing...
Enjoy!

A read for the weekend. Related to something - well, two things really - that I'm writing at the mo.
More to come soon, but in the meantime, here's the prequel!!

Decided to write a thing about something else I've spotted in the #Snettisham volumes...

The Big Book of Torcs is 5 years old!!
A HUGE thank you to everyone who's read, liked, shared and supported me and the site. I really do appreciate it!
It's good to torc!

Tidying up some torc admin before Christmas and have added a DOI and download PDF to the 'Detecting and Torcs' blog.
Seems it's a bit popular and I know several folks are using it for teaching etc (thank you! )

I needed to write something to get my mojo back and here it is: a silly blog for the season...

Hi folks. I wanted to share my thoughts on the recently published Snettisham Hoards volumes (link to an online copy of the books is in the blog).
Thank you for reading

One of our torcs is missing...
(One of these days it would be REALLY nice to be able to write about something standard! )
If you know anything about this torc, have seen anything similar, please do get in touch - I can guarantee confidentiality and anonymity.

I got a new type of #chocolate called 'gold'.
*Of course* I was going to make Netherurd from it!
(Tastes like Caramac, for those who remember that! )
Happy Sunday folks! #Archaeology #Gold #Torcs
When someone invites you to have a podcast chat with someone you've never met before, it can be a bit daunting...
...but when your co-podcastee is the very lovely and brilliant Sigrid Van Roode, you find yourself having a wonderful chat that could have gone on for hours! We had a lot of fun.
If you fancy a listen
If you're in #StAlbans area & fancy hearing the latest on this oh-so wonderful torc (& Gef!), it would be lovely to see you on 15th Nov!
Totally suitable for non-archs too.

Even if you 100% agree it's Iron Age (N.B. we still don't think it is) to ignore connection to Harry Price (known faker & planter of genuine artefacts) is shoddy.
Not SAS's fault (they're just following British Museum), but this leaves a bad taste...
... BM have not disproved ANYTHING we said.
We stand by our original paper on the #Pulborough Area torc, which you can find here: https://bigbookoftorcs.com/2023/10/19/all-the-right-notes-but-not-necessarily-in-the-right-order-the-riddle-of-the-pulborough-area-torc-from-sussex/
Thoughts why coming soon...
Will be giving a lecture at Verulamium Museum @stalbansmuseums on 15th November.
A tale of torcs, gold, ghosts hunters & Gef might also make an appearance. Really hope to see you there!

My thoughts about detecting & torcs - how much has been lost & what we will gain if we do things properly.

That thing when you go to write a short piece about detecting and torcs and you realise there has actually been a paper on this topic festering inside you for years...
I may be some time!
