The Blade is the usual weapon for a Scout, and it is often used by Medics too. As well as being an effective melee weapon, it can also be used to cut the bonds of hostages to set them free. There's usually a blade at the mission location, if none of your team has one. #starcadre #ibmpc #msdos #cga

Most of the battle maps are made up of Snow plains. Some units can travel at full speed here, but the soft snow can slow other units down, such as the Ice Tanks and the Constructor. Units out in the open here are not protected from attack. #barrenplanet #ibmpc #msdos #cga

The Laser Pistol is a favourite of the Auxiliary, requiring Light Firearms skill to use. Some Medics and Scouts are also trained in its use. It causes less damage than the Laser Rifle but can be used at closer quarters. #starcadre #ibmpc #msdos #cga

My parents found an 'old' IBM PC (300GL series type 6285 with a 333 Mhz Celeron so 'old' is subjective) that I used as part of my "homelab" till the early 2000s.
Nothing groundbreaking, but still interesting:
* Slot 1 CPU
* Both ISA (3x) and PCI (3x) slots
* AGP (not slots, bus was for the onboard S3 Trio 3D video only, which however had a VRAM SO-DIMM expansion slot!)
* USB
The IBM design language at that time was also really nice. I remember the matching keyboards and mouse.
I don't think I'll keep it long-term, I'm just curious to see what 23-years-ago-me left on there.
It's pretty dirty. The floppy in the drive reads "Windows 98 boot disk" in my own handwriting.

The Constructor moves around the battlefield to build and repair other units, including Mining Stations. While it is often needed near the front, it should be kept out of danger. Loss of your last constructor makes Mining Stations redundant. #barrenplanet #ibmpc #msdos #cga
