Rather than constantly reminding people to boost posts, maybe #Mastodon could explicitly tell people why they're seeing each post? For some, I know it's because I follow a specific person or hashtag. If someone I follow has boosted a post, I see a 'boosted by...' message so I see that the boost is responsible. For others, I have no idea: I'm not following the person or any of the listed hashtags. Presumably there is a reason I'm seeing the post, but I don't know what it is. If every post had a small:

'You follow {person/hashtag}' in the same places as the '{person} boosted' message, then every post would show me the reason I'm seeing it and that would give users clear feedback that there's no magic: everything that they see is because they have exercised agency to choose things to follow.

@david_chisnall i do see always why I’m seeing a post (either “boosted by” or the hashtag I’m following) at the top of the toot. Always.

I thought it was standard, but maybe it is because I’m using @IceCubesApp ???

If I don’t see a hashtag nor a “boosted by”, it means I’m following the poster.
