Tuesday night #boardgames and
#craftbeer with the #VCSB meetup at #pedalsandpintsbrewing in #thousandoaks

A fun game of AuZtralia with 4 players. Stupid kangaroos! It’s a blast of a #martinwallace design with a semi-uncooperative win condition. We lost to the game😬

Our table recruited some others to end the night with a 7 player game of 7 Wonders Architects. Always good.

Other tables played Rebirth Ireland , Yokohama, and Merchants of the Dark Road.

Monday night #VCSBG #boardgames & #craftbeer

Two new #boardgames on Monday night.
Bloodstones #boardgame designed by #MartinWallace . It's a 1-6 player fantasy wargame with slightly asymmetrical factions and some clever mechanics. It's diceless and uses thick plastic tiles for both cards and the on-map units. The rules are not that complicated but getting to grips with each factions abilities is key to doing well.

Merchants of the Dark Road was played on the other table

Monday night #VCSBG #boardgames and #craftbeer in #Moorpark

A Handful of Stars #boardgame. The last game published by the #MartinWallace Treefrog Games back in 2017. Perhaps I should have inventoried the game before yesterday. I had the 3 replacement cards but I was missing one red cube. Luckily, I have oodles of spare cubes. And more luckily I’m glad the missing piece was not some special shaped wooden bit.
AHOS is the last in the “A Few Acres of Snow” trilogy of #boardgames

Las night was my first play in, yikes, 10 years of A Study in Emerald (1st edition). #boardgame designed by #MartinWallace based on the short story by #neilgaiman of Cthulhu in the age of Sherlock Holmes.
The hidden teams & lowest-loser mechanics make this an enthusiasts game. Not for the faint hearted. We had a blast, literally. It was only a matter of time before assassins & double agents struck. It was a close game. We need to play again soon while the rules are fresh.

Another play for Moa designed by #MartinWallace. This time it took half the time to play. Once again I came second.

Next up was Istanbul. A game I have no recollection of playing before. But I have. Cheers to #BGG for having a better memory that I have.

Last game for the night was Savannah Park. It's a light tile movement/placement #boardgame that is simple but challenging. And I don't just mean finding the specific tiles on the your board.

Monday night #VCSBG #boardgames & #craftbeer

First play for Moa designed by #MartinWallace. This has been on my #shelfofshame for 5 years. It was good to get it played although we did do one thing slightly wrong. For such a simple-ish #boardgame the rules could have been better. Inconsistent terminology usage and key concepts buried deep in paragraphs of text. How about a bit of highlighting of key text.

It was a close game. I came second via the tie-breaker!

@Minniema Hit Z Road is a great #boardgame designed by #MartinWallace that slipped by folks and was often discounted. It’s a tight auction game with fun push your luck dice-based human v zombie combat. The auction mechanic is pure evil Wallace!
The art design is also clever and fun with artwork and components being such from a game designed by a boy who survived such a road trip down Route 66. The game’s currencies as repurposed bottle tops, is about as thematic as it gets.
Enjoy!
