TIL: ORCIDs are not assigned incrementally (reasons explained here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1awd6PPguRAdZsC6CKpFSSSu1dulliT8E3kHwIJ3tD5o/edit?usp=sharing). I have still not figured out how exactly they are minted. Probably randomly within specific ranges, considering the ORCIDs on #Wikidata: 0000-0002-* is twice as likely as 0000-0001-* and 0000-0003-*, there are no other ORCIDs in the 0000-* range, whereas in the less used 0009-* range the distribution is even for 0009-000[0-9].

Our latest blog explores the positive outcomes from a recipient of #ORCID's Global Participation Fund—The Samarkand Branch of Tashkent State University of Economics in Uzbekistan—to seek the transformation of its research ecosystem. 
Now the organization has achieved results that have elevated research in the country to the global stage.

Congratulations to APNIC Foundation for receiving a Global Participation Fund grant for their project: SWITCH: Fast-Track ORCID Adoption for Women Technologists in LLMIC Economies.
SWITCH trains 300 women technologists in Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Timor-Leste and Thailand through blended self-paced learning, an online session and a one-day hands-on workshop. We look forward to seeing their progress!
