🌏 Pink robin (Petroica rodinogaster)

The male pink robin (pictured) is a small, but striking, Australian robin, with a bold pink breast, grey-black upperparts, a white forehead spot, and a black bill. Females are duller, grey-brown with a pinkish tinge below and a buff forehead spot. They inhabit cool, temperate forests of southeastern Australia, including Tasmania. Usually seen alone or in pairs, they are shy and forage for insects and spiders in shrubs or on the ground. Their call is a soft, chattering trill.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)

Male and female Pink Robins and a Green Rosella spotted at Notley Fern Gorge today.

A Green Rosella (a type of parrot) sitting on a small branch. It has a yellow-green body, blue wings and tail feathers, blue cheeks and a red patch above its beak.

A female Pink Robin. It is predominantly brown, but robin shaped.

A male Pink Robin with its chest puffed out. It has a charcoal head and wings and tail, and a pink chest and belly.

On the walk back from Halls Falls, we found a Pink Robin (ok I found quite a few Pink Robins, but I photographed this particular one), and a New Holland Honeyeater warned all and sundry of our presence.

The gloriously pink chest and bellied Pink Robin. Its head, wings and tail are charcoal. It has a short, pointy beak.
