One of the 1 of 200 hosts asks Marx whether Canada has considered MMP. Apparently they have, but the liberals and conservatives keep blocking it.
I recommend citizens who want proportional representation in their countries campaign for STV, not MMP. I say that having voted in elections using both MMP (NZ general elections since 1996) and STV (some local body elections).

The Canadien Government has made an ad for the coming election, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.
If #markcarney wins this election it, will be because millions of progressive and centre right Canadians have lent him their votes as a compromise in a moment of national emergency. He has an incredible opportunity to show real leadership and reward the trust of Canadians by moving ahead with the citizens’ assembly on electoral reform. He can be the one who breaks the cycle and makes sure Canadians are never put in this position again. 75% of us agree, It’s time for #proportionalrepresentation.

Of course, the more permanent solution to this would be to implement #ProportionalRepresentation
As has been demonstrated by the current minority government, people benefit most when parties work together.

#RankedChoiceVoting would produce #ProportionalRepresentation in the legislature. The same voting system could choose the correct* winner in an election with just one winner, such as a head of state. So in that sense they're completely compatible.
*The result is correct if the winner is the candidate who would have beaten all the other candidates in a one-versus-one contest.

I hear ranked choice ballots totally fixes this and no need for all that complicated counting stuff.
Here's how wonderful the First Past the Post voting system is that Canada, UK, & the US depend upon for our semblance of political democracy....
Trump is able to do all that he is doing now because although he got less than half the votes cast in 2024, he got 1.5% more votes than Kamala Harris.
