I'm currently watching "The Monday Night War". There was a lot of sexualization in pro wrestling in the 90s. It was there before and still is there today. But the level of sexualization was definitely at it's peak at that time.
And today I finally know why I was never drawn by that. I actually felt more alienated from the product due to my asexuality. It was just stuff I didn't want to see. Might explain as well that I couldn't buy into the early WWF attitude era as much as into the WCW/NWO.
This week, there was a scene on AEW Dynamite where a guy was trying to buy himself into a stable by offering the guys of that group about eight women for a night. That wasn't just sexualization, but plain misogyny. The scene lowered my perception of an otherwise great episode by a good margin.
