In the #flatpak vs #snap debate. I have installed #kubuntu recently and while getting setup with the applications I like to install. More often than not (with one or two exceptions) the application was in flathub and either wasn't present in the snap repo or it was a 3rd party clone. So yep, flatpaks have won when it comes to the average consumer

@onlytina Ich verstehe, woher diese Einstellung kommt, aber die Punkte stimmen so grundsätzlich nicht. Konkrete Punkte, warum es spezifisch Probleme geben soll, werden von dir nicht genannt.

Zig Leute verwenden Ubuntu für all die Sachen, die du genannt hast und auch Mint. Dass Mint grundsätzlich schlecht geeignet ist für Streaming, Gaming etc. als andere Distributionen, halte ich für Unsinn. Mint nutzt die regelmäßig erneuerten Kernel von Ubuntu, womit die Unterstützung neuerer Hardware grundsätzlich sichergestellt ist. Manche Games haben mit Wayland übrigens noch selten Probleme, was von Cinnamon nicht richtig unterstützt wird. Gut Genug funktioniert #LinuxMint für viele auf jeden Fall, bei Steam ist Mint neben Ubuntu eine der meistgenutzten Distributionen und das seit Jahren: store.steampowered.com/hwsurve
Und aktuelle Treiber bekommt man für Ubuntu-basierte Distributionen ohne Probleme. Und aktuelle Gaming-Software gibt es via #Flatpak, was auf dem #SteamDeck auch die Hauptbezugsquelle für neue Software ist und bei Mint ebenfalls eine der Hauptbezugsquellen für Pakete ist.

Nur so als Gegenbeispiel: Hier wird #popOS für Gaming empfohlen, was aber seit Jahren wegen des großen Cosmic-Umbaus auf einer Ubuntu-Basis von 22.04 festhängt und viele veraltete Pakete mitschleppt.

Klar gibt es hochspezialisierte Distributionen, die einem einiges deutlich leichter machen. Mint ist aber für sehr viele Szenarien ein guter Allrounder und nicht nur für "alte Leute, die nix besonderes mit ihrem Rechner machen".

Wenn ich mit meiner Freundin auf Discord (buh!) über Spiele schreibe, ziehe ich gerne Screenshots aus meinem Steam-Ordner in den Chat.

Da der Ordner bisher nicht für das Discord-Flatpak freigeschaltet war, musste ich die Screenshots erst umständlich in Pictures etc. kopieren, wo das Flatpak an sie rankommt.

Vorher wurden die Bilder per Drag n Drop zwar "angenommen", konnten aber nicht gesendet werden 🙄

Unter Linux Mint mit Cinnamon gab es keinen (vorinstallierten) grafischen Weg die Flatpak-Pfade einzustellen oder? Kann mich jedenfalls nicht daran erinnern.

Unter KDE gibt es die Flatpak-Berechtigungen in den Einstellungen.

Steam-Pfad für Discord hinzugefügt und Apply. So viel besser jetzt 😊

Dachte erst ich müsste mit flatseal im Terminal hantieren...
