Further to the launch of my new Isle of Skye portfolio, 11-years in the making (https://www.iancylkowski.com/scottish-islands/isle-of-skye), let's highlight a few specific areas.
First, here's 𝗦𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻, one of the first true "wow" factors you come across when on the island. Here you get sweeping panoramas that take in both the Red and Black Cuillins.
There are also loads of rivers in the area, with delightful water features that lend themselves to amazing compositions.
“The Land Reform Act 2003 gives everyone rights of access over land and inland water throughout Scotland, subject to specific exclusions set out in the Act and as long as they behave responsibly. These rights are sometimes referred to as 'freedom to roam'.”
This is a peninsula on Loch Bracadale which has no inhabitants beyond a certain point. It is a glorious place in which to roam. The paths you can see were made by sheep.

Announcing my Ultimate Isle of Skye Portfolio, eleven years in the making https://www.iancylkowski.com/scottish-islands/isle-of-skye
I first visited the island in October 2014 and honestly, my photography destiny changed forever.
I have since visited five times. I'll never get sick of it.
I hope through these images you feel at least a fraction of the love I have for this place.
A small drawing of Kilt Rock on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. The drawing features the rocks, the sea, the waterfall and a grey sky. It measures 5 by 7 inches.

Loch Coruisk in the Isle of Skye is one of the most spectacular and isolated places in the British Isles. The head of this freshwater loch is surrounded on three sides by the imposing volcanic Black Cuillin while the southern end runs into a small rivulet, which then discharges into a sea loch, Loch Scavaig. As with much of the Highlands, once it would have been thickly wooded. Deforestation has left it all the bleaker.
Sidney Richard Percy (1821-1886)
“Yesterday three fire crews were battling a 150-metre wall of flame on the Isle of Skye as wildfires threatened huge swathes of the north’s landscape.
Large parts of the Scotland are currently covered by a severe wildfire warning and there have already been a large number of serious incidents.
Crews from Dunvegan, Portree and Kyle of Lochalsh were sent to the Glendale area of Skye shortly after midday.”

“The optimists among us
taking heart because it is spring
skip along
attending their meetings
signing their e-mail petitions
marching with their satiric signs
singing their we shall overcome songs
posting their pungent twitters and blogs
believing in a better world
for no good reason
I envy them

We're off to Skye over Easter and while there are lists of things to do or places to go, I was wondering if anyone has a favourite activity or place when visiting Skye? Especially with children under 10.
The Duirinish Stone was NOT erected thousands of years ago. Set in a concrete base, it stands approximately 5m high and was erected by hand. That is to say it was pulled up the hill and set in place by human power. See the ALT for more information…
A view from the ’Two Churches Walk.near Dunvegan. Healaval Mhor* is the flat topped hill in the distance.
* sometimes called MacLeod’s Table North
Are you visiting #Skye this year? My new Skye and the #InnerHebrides guidebook recommends the island's most interesting nooks and crannies, with lots of good reasons to take your time exploring.

The spring equinox marks the start of astronomical spring.
The date is determined by the Earth's tilt on its axis as it travels around the Sun.
At the equinox, the Earth's axis is tilted neither towards nor away from the Sun, making day and night nearly equal in length.
Wherever you are on the planet, the equinox occurs at the exactly the same moment…
Here, on the Isle of Skye in 2025 the equinox is on Thursday the 20th March at 09:01 hours.
