The Star Trek Movies Kind of Ruined Jean-Luc Picard | Den of Geek

This meshes with my opinion that the worst thing that ever happened to Jean-Luc Picard was giving Patrick Stewart more creative control. It's like he has no idea why the character was belovèd or, more honestly, doesn't care. He gets to be an action hero because he thought it would be cool and fun to play.
He's the same guy who only agreed to come back for "Picard" if it was a brand new arc that focused on him and didn't involve any of the other TNG crew.
I don't think he's vile and malicious. I just think he would rather tell the stories he likes more than what the fans like. That's fine. He's the one who has to act them out. But "Picard" Season 3's hard pivot shows how well that worked out for him, career-wise.

Damn, a young Patrick Stewart.
