They were often used as wedding rings. An inscription on the outside, as here, is more common in 14th- and 15th-century rings; as their use continued into the 16th and 17th centuries the inscription moved inside. This inscription was not understood until recently but Malcolm Jones used this model to demonstrate that it reads ‘bi e va’, not ‘vi e va’ as previously thought. The extension after the ‘e’ shows that it is an abbreviation of ‘en’ so the whole reads as ‘bien va’, which translates as ‘go well’. The same inscription appears on a contemporary ring brooch from the Isle of Wight, now in the British Museum. Four very similar rings were found about 30 miles away at Lewes, possibly suggesting that they were all made locally. They are on display at Lewes Museum. Why are 98% of #3DModel assets on #Sketchfab and similar sites so absolutely terrible?

Sure, they may look nice in the preview.

But what am I supposed to do with a spotlight which will sit on the ceiling and which will never be seen up close by anyone, yet uses a trillion triangles for the little cable that sticks out of the back?

Some of these models have inverted normals so parts that are supposed to be inside are outside.

It might actually be faster to pick up 3D modeling myself than sifting through this endless junk pile.

Is that how it works? People just flood the marketplaces with stuff that is so painful to look at that the pain of learning #Blender pales in comparison?

Wanted to change the description of one of my models on #Sketchfab. We REALLY need a new CC license that explicitly forbids AI trash or sites will do this.

Also: that's a new low and is not ok. All the other free license I can choose are without attribution. Way to value artists.

It is so wrong how #sketchfab will not allow you to tag #noai when a model is creative commons.

Can someone please explain me how attribution is supposed to work with AI? Sorry. This is BS. And if you can't attribute, you cannot use the asset. It is as easy as that.

Except for cc-0, #CreativeCommons is fundamentally incompatible with #ai.

CC does not stand for "free for all use me however you please".
