Taken from across the Thames, in the foreground are the roofs of jetties for boats to land, angled from around a quarter of the way up the frame on the right to the bottom left corner. This angle compliments the tall, thin pyramid shape of The Shard, which sits in the background around a third in from the left, towering above the surrounding buildings. Sunlight is catching and reflecting off the top of The Shard, creating a spotlight effect. Taken with a Sony RX100.

Re-reading The Seeker by Shona MacLean and a description of the Queen's House in Greenwich, London, has reminded me of this photo I took a few years ago of one of its beautiful spiral staircases.

This is a square format colour image of two empty decks chairs on a pier. They are positioned away from the viewer, looking out towards the sea and Brighton beach. Backlit, the blue and white vertical stripes really pop together with the blue sky and white clouds. This is an image of lazy summer days by the sea. The wooden slats of the pier lead the viewer towards the chairs and beyond. Along the middle of the frame, behind the chairs, is the ornate metalwork of the Victorian pier. This is a landscape format colour photograph taken from underneath a wooden pier. Taken standing on the concrete sea wall, the wooden struts of the pier curve away from the viewer to the left. Light falls through the boards of the walkway above creating a grid of shadows and light. Between the struts to the left, the sea is visible together with a further seawall on which stands a lighthouse. The light is diffuse and the colours muted: it almost appears grey scale. Taken with a Sony RX100 in Whitby, Yorkshire.
