A Little-Known Microsoft Program Could Expose the Defense Department to Chinese Hackers

The Pentagon bans foreign citizens from accessing highly sensitive data, but Microsoft bypasses this by using engineers in China and elsewhere to remotely instruct American “escorts” who may lack expertise to identify malicious code.

It amazes me that companies as large as #Zoom distribute #deb packages for their software but can't figure out how to put those packages into an #APT repository, leaving it to random strangers on the internet to take up the slack with their own time and money (<github.com/mwt/zoom-apt-repo>).
I mean there are entire companies whose entire business model is hosting APT repositories. Zoom could just, you know, pay one of them to do it?

TL;DR: A ProPublica investigation reveals that Microsoft employs engineers in China to assist with the Defense Department's sensitive computer systems, exposing critical U.S. data to potential cyber threats due to inadequate oversight by U.S. personnel. This system, designed to circumvent security regulations, raises serious concerns about state-sponsored espionage amidst deteriorating U.S.-China relations. propublica.org/article/microso #law #tech #legaltech ⚖️ 🤖 #autosum

Blockchain would decentralize power. AI, we are told, will create plenty of jobs. Eventually. Eventually is doing a lot of work in that sentence. It’s
