Looks like there's a bug in the photo selection of #iOS26 and #ipadOS26. When you have a folder with just folders inside, that base folder won't show up for selection in the Album view. So you can't reach any albums that are in those subfolders.

To test:

  1. Create a folder in the root level of your "Albums" view in the Photos app
  2. Create a folder inside that newly created folder
  3. Create an album inside the folder created in step 2 and add some photos to it.
  4. Now switch to e.g. #Messages or your favourite Mastodon app and open the photo selection for sharing a photo. Tap the "Collections" tab and expand the "Albums" section. Try to find that folder you've created in step 1.

Now, if you add an album inside the top level folder, it WILL show up. But a folder without any albums inside it will be hidden.

How long till encryption busting is applied to the Aus implementation of the OSA?

“Aside from #AgeVerification, the most controversial aspect of the act is power it gives to #Ofcom to require #tech firms to install “accredited technology” to ^monitor encrypted communications^ for #illegalContent.

In essence, this would mean tech companies using #software to bulk-scan #messages on #encrypted services (such as #WhatsApp, #Signal and #Element) before their #encryption, otherwise known as client-side scanning (#CSS).

Implementing such measures would undermine the #security and #privacy of encrypted services by scanning the content of every message and #email to check whether they contain illegal content.

This has been repeatedly justified by the #government as necessary for stopping the creation and spread of child sexual abuse materials (#CSAM), as well as violent #crime and #terrorism.

#Cryptographic experts, however, have repeatedly argued that measures mandating tech firms to proactively detect harmful content through client-side scanning should be abandoned.”

It just keeps getting better, doesn’t it? 🍿

“On the advice of various #experts, people are locking down #SocialMedia, deleting #photos and private #messages, removing #FacialRecognition, or even #traveling with #BurnerPhones to protect themselves.

In Canada, multiple public institutions have urged #employees to avoid travel to the US, and at least one reportedly told staff to leave their usual devices at home and bring a second device with “limited personal information” instead.”

On Friday, I watched the #Disney film #Pocahontas – it surprised me with its #beautiful #messages! 😍

One of the them was that we need more #love ❤️ and less war and conflict ⚔️. Love yourself 😊, love others (at least care about others) 🫂 and love our wonderful #planet (at least take care of it) 🌎.

Another message: we must respect and fulfil the rights of #indigenouspeoples ✊, switch to clear-cutting-free #forestry 🏞, switch to a #circulareconomy ♻️ and provide people with good working conditions.

Or don't buy a new Android phone.
And don't use an app owned by Meta.

My android still has Google Assistant (with all the stuffs turned off). I can "switch from Google Assistant to Gemini" if I want to but it's not done by default. I assume the new phones come with Gemini baked in.

I suppose the other option is to use Signal for messaging & calls.

UGH. Is there even a way to disable all Gemini access on a Pixel? This is not good at all.

Summary from @cazabon

"I learned something today: Google's Gemini "AI" on phones accesses your data from "Phones, Messages, WhatsApp" and other stuff whether you have Gemini turned on or not. It just keeps the data longer if you turn it on. Oh, and lets it be reviewed by humans (!) for Google's advantage in training "AI" etc.

But this only came to my attention because of an upcoming change: it's going to start keeping your data long-term even if you turn it "off": "#Gemini will soon be able to help you use Phone, #Messages, #WhatsApp, and Utilities on your phone, whether your Gemini Apps Activity is on or off."

This is, of course, a #privacy and #security #nightmare.

If this is baked into Android, and therefore not removable, I'd have to say I'd recommend against using Android at all starting July 7th."

There really isn't a single shitty day that goes by
that some crap doesn't happen
We are constantly bombarded by
horror stories

I wait every day
for the big bang 💥

And when it comes
then we're all so screwed
and completely numb
we will just
stand there motionless
unable to react...

There could be a system
behind it

Well...
I'm just saying...

Volla, ein deutsche Hersteller von Smartphones, hat die öffentl. Beta-Version seines neuen Messengers „Volla Messages“ veröffentlicht. Die App ist u.a. für Android, Windows, Linux verfügbar. My cat walked on my iPad and somehow managed to mark all recent messages as unread. This was about 15 messages across numerous chats, both groups and individuals. I have no idea how she did this, but it could be a useful feature. I’ve asked the cat for an explanation but she refuses to talk. #iPad #Messages #CatsOfMastodon #Cats
