The intersection of Nieuwe Herengracht and Entrepotdok is located in Amsterdam’s Plantage district, a neighborhood with a strong historical and cultural character. 🏛️

Nieuwe Herengracht, part of the city’s famous canal system, extends from the Herengracht and runs between the Amstel River and the Scharrebiersluis near Entrepotdok. Built in 1️⃣6️⃣5️⃣8️⃣, it marks the eastern edge of the canal belt. ⛵

At this junction, several bridges help connect different parts of the neighborhood. The “Walter Süskind Bridge” (no. 237) links Nieuwe Herengracht to the Weesperzijde, serving as a key crossing for both pedestrians and cyclists. Nearby, the “M.S. Vaz Dias Bridge” (no. 238) and the “Hortus Bridge” (no. 239) also play an important role in keeping the area well connected. 🌁

Vijzelgracht 39 in Amsterdam is a historic building with a rich history. Built in the 17th century, and given a simple neck gable with plain, undecorated volutes in the 18th century. 🏠

On the first floor, where the Smiley flag is fluttering fierce, a 17th-century window arrangement is still intact. 🙂

The most famous yellow smiley face was designed in 1963 by Harvey Ball, an American graphic artist. The design featured a simple yellow circle with black dots for eyes and a curved smile. However, Ball never trademarked it, and the design spread widely. 🤨

The Market Gate, Elbląg, Poland

Built in the 14th century as one of nine gates in the city’s now-defunct fortifications, the building is one of the most valuable and recognizable buildings in Elbląg. The 26-meter-high Market Gate can be admired from the outside, and in the summer season (from May to September) you can also go inside. It is definitely worth doing so, as a viewing terrace was built in its upper part, from which there is a beautiful panorama of the Old Town.

Church Path, Elbląg, Poland

It is a narrow passage between reconstructed tenement houses and connects two streets of the Old Town – Holy Spirit Street and Bridge Street. Its name comes from the two churches it once connected – Dominican and St. Nicholas. In the Middle Ages, it was used by the faithful and monks to move faster from one church to another.

The entire passage of the Elbląg Church Path is bulging with 10 Gothic, strutted and two-level arches. Its route once led from the Old Town to the gate of the former Dominican Church (today Galeria El). It was slightly longer then. The part leading to the monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary was unfortunately destroyed. The fragment of the Church Path that survived is now one of the original and few preserved medieval elements in the Elbląg Old Town. The rest was devastated during World War II.
