10 years ago yesterday I broke my arm, skiing (on day 1 of the trip 🫣). During the recovery phase I found Toastmasters, which significantly changed my communication style and life.

I also concluded that good, clean&healthy nutrition and healing go well together: The doctors first considered an operation within 10 days, but when they saw day-7's healing state going vastly beyond their expectation and experience, they didn't want to operate any more.

@augieray Well said. I retired last year and #COVID has dramatically altered my expectations. I had been heavily involved in #Toastmasters and expected that would fill a lot of my time, but I refuse to go to large, unmasked gatherings. It’s not worth the risk. My priority is continuing to evade COVID with sensible precautions, both for myself and to protect my 89 year old mother who I see regularly.

Excited to present tomorrow at our internal #IBM Spark Design Festival.
Unlike most of my #Toastmasters speeches it’s a longer talk, with carefully crafted visuals – heck, it’ a design conference – and jointly with a great colleague.

We talk about the power of conceptual modeling.

I already enjoyed our speaker rehearsals today giving lots of evaluations and feedback to my fellow speakers.

It just occurred to me* that I never did an intro post.

My name's David, I'm a support worker with Auslan qualifications, working with a number of Deaf and hearing people (and one Deafblind). I also have a Deaf spouse.

I'm interested in accessibility and training (for professional reasons), games, making things (Current project - a fiddly little model of a Cyberman head), and the usual nerd stuff (because it's fun).

I'm also a member of Toastmasters International, which I joined to improve my presentation skills for the goal of becoming an Auslan interpreter. But at this stage I'll probably give up on interpreting accreditation and go for a coordinator type role.

Tonight was the first time I used Continuity Camera at our online #Toastmasters meetup.

The experience is absolutely flawless. The Mac activates the iPhone automatically – no cables required. Center Stage works like a charm following me on "stage" in front of my standing desk. Portrait mode blurs the background while gesticulating arms won't disappear.

This nifty little Elephant Card holds the phone on top of the Mac.

Finished my first #icebreaker speech in my local #toastmasters club. I don't think you're not human if you're not at least a bit nervous when #PublicSpeaking, and I definitely was. The feedback I got was very positive--one of my friends said I "rushed it". I'm not sure if I'd go that far--I could have been a bit more organized, but the intimidatingly experienced toastmaster who evaluated me was very positive and encouraging. I think I'll do it again.
